Link Roundup

Okay, in order to keep my new posts from getting excessive I'll just gather some links of interest and post them here:

1) BreathingEarth

This site is a real-time display of carbon monoxide emissions for every country in the world as well as the number of births and deaths per second in each country and a global total. Amazing.

2) The World Without Us - Did You Know?

The website for the book of same name details milestones in Earth's future if mankind suddenly did not exist. Fascinating, and makes me want to read the book.

3) The People's Mario

An awesome flash animation of Mario as Hero of the Proletariat. Brilliant.

4) Free Tech Books

A cool site with lots of free books and guides on tech stuff. Beginner to advanced stuff. The internet is an awesome wealth of info, eh?

5) game, game, game and again game

Insane flash game. Crazy awesome.

That's all for now. Enjoy!

RETHOS

This seems insanely cool. Rethos is a social networking site designed to focus on progressive activism and grasroots media exchange. The site goes live on September 1st, but you can prepare a profile ahead of time to get it ready for the launch. Give it a check out at their website here.

The Tribunes (of the Oppressed)

Just wanted to link this fantastic radical jazz group. They have connections to Carbon/Silicon and make some fine music. Check out their site here and listen to some of their cuts. They only have a UK release available at the moment, but hopefully that will change.

StumbleUpon

This is an utterly addictive plug-in. A description from the site:
Channel surf the internet with the StumbleUpon toolbar to find great websites, videos, photos and more based on your interests. StumbleUpon learns what you like and makes better recommendations.

Highly recommended.

Andy Rooney is weird, rambly and a little Racist...

...In his latest column. He writes one of his usual, tired, complaining articles about how he doesn't "get" the boring sport of baseball. The standout line is this one:
I know all about Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, but today's baseball stars are all guys named Rodriguez to me. They're apparently very good but they haven't caught my interest.

That's such a weird and racist sounding thing to say. I'm (pretty) sure he didn't intend it as such, but there is certainly a little bit of ugliness there. The rest of the article is an exercise in willful ignorance. Fun.

The Government Fails at Censorship

Damned crafty kids, always thwarting the attempts by our government to limit the free flow of information:
Tom Wood, a Year 10 Australian student has cracked the federal government's $84-million Internet porn filter in just 30 minutes.

Good christ, what a waste of money. I understand that kids shouldn't be looking at porn and whatever, but god damned the government shouldn't be involved in wasting money on creating hackable filters. Thank God for freedom.

The Sunday Music Video

Holy crap, it's been a while since I posted. Let's do a little music. An awesome band you should all know and love is Gogol Bordello. Gypsy Punk Cabaret. It's brilliant. Here's a music video for their latest single, "Wonderlust King:"

Great, no? Maybe I'll be back with more substantive updates later today or sometime next week. Rest assured though, I am not dead.
